After months of anticipation and hard work, we finally have permit in hand and work on the next section of the Guemes Channel Trail is underway. Thanks to Lovric’s Marina for allowing Strandberg Constuction access to begin work from the west end of the the project. For safety sake we ask that the public wait to enjoy the trail until construction is complete.
All those involved in the planning for this part of the trail want to thank the Anacortes community for their enthusiastic support and mostly for your patience. It is a huge undertaking with many layers of challenges to overcome. Every one of the nearly 800 folks who have ‘liked’ us on facebook or this website, or signed a petition of support have joined us on our journey to Olympia as we knock on the doors of our legislators. It is because of this that we have yet to use city financing, this section of trail is moving forward with state financing and public donations.
What is next? No time to rest. We look east and see the end in sight. Wouldn’t we all love to be able to travel from the west end of the island and get safely to downtown Anacortes while never needing to travel on Hwy. 20! On the other end we are making plans to extend the trail all the way to Washington Park.
This is an exciting time. Let’s keep moving forward to “Complete the Dream”.
