Trinity Andersen- I can’t wait to try it out!

Alex Hernandez- Looks great. Can’t wait to go for a jog on the trail.

Eric Davis-

Justin Curran

Bruce Baglien

Butch Cassidy- A really great thing for me in my electric wheel chair.

Carl Meinzinger-Awesome!

Joan Knowles-Great Job so far.  OUTSTANDING IDEA

Eugene & Barbara Kiver-Wonderful concept and project! An important quality of life issue for Anacortians and visitors! We use the trail weekly and wish that it was much longer. We have guided out-of-town photographers to the existing section of this extremely photogenic channel. The photographers were ecstatic with the beauty of our island. We need to move faster on this worthwhile project

Lyndon Greene-Great project for Anacortes. TT & Washington Park trails are a big asset to the city…the Guemes Channel Trail will only make it better. The scenery, marine & water activity along the Guemes Channel is one of the best kept secrets in Anacortes

Butch Cassidy-A really great thing for me in my electric wheel chair

Allison Petrich-connecting wa park and skyline via a trail is an amazing idea, i never bike out that way because it is just too dangerous going up 12th, with this in place families can enjoy wa park instead of only the downtown parks by bike or walking, my daughter and i and others could make it a fun day trip, also all the bike riders that catch the ferry will now have a safe way to get there

Linda Grace-Thanks for doing this! We love’d love to have that trail!! The Tommy Thompson one is already wonderful..

Dori Johnson-love the trail and walk if often with my four footed buddy

Barry Schaeffer-This project is important to our town and to the State. Please tell me how I can help.

Janet Lowry-This will be a gift to our community!

Tom Miller-My wife and I walk the TT or Washington Park every day. Be great to have a sea wall trail like Stanley Park in Vancouver here in Anacortes.

Ed & Cheryl McGuinnes- We are avid bikers and use the current Tommy Thompson trail often when weather permits. Living in the west-end we’d really look forward to further progress linking the Guemes Channel trail with the Tommy Thompson trail.

Jack Porter-I ride bicycle from Skyline into Anacortes 3-4 times/week. Taking Oakes Ave is the most direct route, but it is so dangerous with all the ferry traffic and even just the westside traffic, skinny shoulders, and dirty (rocks, twigs, gravel and broken glass) shoulders that often require riding into roadway to avoid. The Guemes Channel trail would provide a safe path into town. Thanks!

Eugene Earnest-I have trail building experience. Would be interested in working on this very worth while project.

Ed & Cheryl McGuinness-We are avid bikers and use the current Tommy Thompson trail often when weather permits. Living in the west-end we’d really look forward to further progress linking the Guemes Channel trail with the Tommy Thompson trail.

Jack Hutteball-

David & Norma Priebe-home is on proposed trail

Robin Stewart-

Dave & Kay Smith-

Janet Lowry-  This will be a gift to our community

Jessica Harris-

Jennifer Brown-Fully support the extension of the trail to the San Juan Ferry.  As a resident of  Anacortes I would use the trail daily.  There is no safe way for me to commute via bike downtown.

Peter Haase-It would be nice to see a map of where the trail will go … tie the gallery photos to the map. It would be nice to have a way to see what already exists and how to get to it.Some kind of schedule of activity – what section is being worked on, what’s next, etc …Wonderful idea.

Iian Woffenden-

Jim Eberhardt- Completion of the GCT is an excellent idea. Existing segments of the TTT are used year around by many in the community as well as by cash carrying tourists. GCT would add one more feature to an already very fine community

Sara Shao-McVay- Continuing the Thompson Trail along the Guemes Channel to the ferries would be a wonderful addition to the Anacortes trail system. Whenever visitors come, the TTT is always one of the place I take the walking enthusiasts. More trail would make it an even better experience.

Eric Johnson- This trail will be a superb asset for all the citizens of Anacortes!

Margaret & Bruce Evertz- Thank you Anacortes Parks Foundation for leading the way in this endeavor. Trails like the Guemes Channel and the Tommy Thompson have a very positive influence on the health of our citizens. These trails get us outdoors and away from car emissions. Let’s be the city that walks.

Mike Sharp-I totally support the continuation of the walking trail thru anacortes, especially along the Guemes Channel. Let’s complete the trail-I look forward to using the trail on a regular basis.

David Cunningham-

Don Glickman-A safe haven for walkers and bike riders.

Feryll Blanc- Kudos to the originators of this idea and those that have been active in promoting it! The trail will provide another convenient venue for exercising outdoors, mostly auto traffic free, with ”knock you socks off” scenery…..GO FOR IT!

Mike Tallering- Let us know how we can help get this accomplished.

Cynthia Richard-Thanks for your efforts.

Callie Martin- Looking forward to supporting this great project until follow through! Thanks :)

Hal Rodgers- Who, in Gods name would be against this?

Rick Haley- Let’s make it happen! The existing short stretch is one of my favorite places in town.

Ashley Sullivan-Do you have a map of what is currently done and what still needs to be done that would be super SUPER helpful! This would be an amazing project that I could see helping bring more tourist into Anacortes to STAY and not just pass through!

Can you imagine if this connected to with the old trail beds heading out of Bellingham, along the dikes near Bayview and over the Tommy Thompson bridge, around Anacortes and to the ferry? World Class bike trail, walking path or running trail if you ask me!

Elizabeth Scholze Schmidt- This city is amazing, and this will be a jewel to add to the fabulous diverse livability of this community. I would help in any way I can!

Kristen Murphy- Wonderful project…

Leigh Newman-Bell-This is a great idea! I love biking and running on the Tommy Thompson Trail so having even more space to do so would be ideal. The main consideration for me is not disrupting any of the wildlife that are currently present in these areas. If the trail can be made in a sustainable-ecologically friendly fashion, then I say go for it!

Barbara Adams- I’m very much for this project. I would use the trail regularly, and I’d also mention it when I write travel articles about our area.

Jan & Sean Kelly- The Guemes Channel Trail is a huge hit with those of us who live in close proximity to Ship Harbor. Extending the trail from downtown Anacortes to Washington Park will be an added bonus to living in our special community.

Carol Perry-The Tommy Thompson Trail is such a great asset to the community and it’s wonderful to know it will be expanded.

Karen Thomson-I LOVE the channel trail and can only imagine how thrilling the completed trail will be for our community.

Graham Read- I recently rode my bike to view the completed section of the Guemes Channel Trail and I found it to be really great with a spectacula view. It will be an asset to the island and provide a way of escaping the heavy Ferry traffic in addition to complementing the Tommy Thompson Trail.

Chris Zimmerman- This project will add more options to enjoy the waterfront beauty of the area and preserve access for future generations. A great idea!!

Mayo Earnest- I absolutely support this project!

Charlotte & David  Clifton-Yes build it!

Gordy Van Dyken-always enjoy riding across the valley to anacortes, this will just add to the draw!!

Roy Pringle-I bicycle the TTTrail weekly and would love to see it extended to the ferry terminal.

Jody Honomichl-What a great addition the completion of the trail would be to our community! Let’s hurry…….I would like to be able to use it in my lifetime!

John & Aleli Howell-This is such a worthy project. The city must be acknowledged for the excellence that is the trail’s hallmark throughout its length. And not to be too sappy, but my spirit soars whenever I am on the Guemes Channel Trail. It’s completion is a much anticipated event that I actually think will happen in my lifetime. How awesome!

Barnard-I’ve hiked many times from WA Park along the old railroad grade almost all the way to Lovrics. I take the beach for the last 200yards that are impassible due to out of control blackberries & more recently lots of trees that have been cut down in a jumble across the old railroad grade. I’d definitely like to be involved in establishing a trail at least as far as Dakota Ave. I think beyond that it may have to be a ”trail” marked along existing sidewalks.

Margaret Read-Great News.

Ria Stroosma-We Will never have enough trails! So it is a wonderful plan!!

Ann Testerman-Being an avid walker and bicycler, I would like to see the completion of the Guemes Channel Trail. It will be a benefit to the community, both for tourists and locals. And it will become another avenue for transportation in our fine city.

Wendy & Hugh Kendrick-Yes, we support it !

Mac Madenwald-A top priority MUST for Anacortes!!!!!

Bill Testerman-Would be a great trail to link Tommy Thompson to the Guemes Trail.

Jeri Liggitt-Would love to see this happen…..

Donna Wright-Yippee! I am glad that this project is in forward motion! It will be an asset and a much safer way for bicyclers to make the trip through town to the Ferry as well as add a fun biking route for all of us!

William Hayton-I and my wife regularly use the Tommy Thompson trail, travelling about 20 miles by car to Anacortes to do so. We also use the trip to partake of retail establishments in Anacortes. The Guemes Channel Trail would be a highly welcome addition to the trail system and I predict would increase our use of this wonderful resource.

Sherrie Meyer-Would love to see this happen sooner rather than later. The waterfront trails in Victoria are fabulous and they go past many waterfront homes as well but have been tastefully done to maintain the privacy of those owners as well as creating access for thw whole community

Karen & Bob Eichler- This is a concept well worth continuing, especially after the repair of the trestle. The public beach access is a valuable part of Anacortes. All community members can benefit!

-Bruce Raine- I am a walker, runner and a hiker and would love to see this trail available to the community.

Aaron Rasmussen, Anacortes Parks Board-Please go out to the cul-de-sac at the end of Edwards Way and walk the half-mile section of the Guemes Channel Trail that has already been built. It is beautiful, but still a dead-end spur. When linked to downtown and then to Washington Park, this trail will be a world-class gem, right here in Anacortes!

Dian Jahn-I took a lovely walk on the Guemes Channel Trail on Christmas Day. It is wonderful trail with beautiful views, birdwatching, and lovely beach areas…. It will be such an remarkable asset to this community and our visitors. This pathway, when completed from Washington Park to the city and then connected to the Tommy Thompson Parkway, will be an fantastic asset to all residents of Anacortes and Skagit County, not to mention visitors passing through.

Elizabeth Hastorf-Yes, it will be a fantastic addition to the valley

Wendy Gray-Completion of he Guemes Channel Trail should be a number one priority for the city. The trail will be offer tremendous benefit to the entire community allowing residents and visitors to have access to a coastline path. This needs to be done now so we can enjoy a non-motorized means of getting from one end of town to the other – future generations will thank us!

Kathy & Denis Foster-We use the trails as members of Skagit Bicycle Club

David Hall-When I first moved to Anacortes in 1988 I joined the Noon Kiwanis Club.  The late Bill Wells, one of the city’s greatest supporters, inducted all new members.  During the induction he asked me if there were any changes I would like to see in Anacortes.  It took only a moment to realize that we are blessed with waterfront on three sides of our city, but there was very little public access to it.  That is when the dream began for me.  There have been many improvements in public access since then, which we are all proud of, and one more project left to complete the dream.

Vicki Stasch-A needed amenity for Anacortes as a way for walkers and bicyclists to travel safely from Anacortes to the ferries and as a vital link with the Tommy Thompson trail. This project will continue to place Anacortes on the map as a tourism stop or destination

Louise Dustrude- How delightful it would be to bike into town from the ferry without having to watch for traffic. We have walked the little bit of trail that exists there now and look forward to it reaching all the way into town

Shannon Dean- I am excited about making this trail complete. I am looking forward to a safer commute especially in the winter months when riding on the road is more dangerous

Dan Senour- What a wonderful project! The sooner the Better!

Bill Woyski– Would enhance the draw of Anacortes as a tourist destination. It would draw people out to walk and cycle that lovely stretch of channel. Thus, it would improve the health of both the economy and people of our beautiful city.

Gina Van Hess-At one time, I could walk from Green’s Landing (foot of C Ave.) all the way to downtown along a railroad track. Such a trail as proposed would be fantastic!

Jeffrey Vogel-Thank you for all your work so far on the project. My family is enjoying the trail already and can’t wait until it’s done.

Betty Carteret- As President of the local non-profit Friends of Skagit Beaches, I looking forward to being able to expand our new ”Trail Tales” interpretive program along the north shoreline of Fidalgo Island when this trail section gets completed. Let’s complete the dream in time for the 2013 – 2015 Ecology Public Participation Grant cycle so that we can apply to extend our current grant funded project. This will be another great addition to the outstanding parks and trails system in Anacortes.

Rita James– Expanding the Anacortes waterfront trail to include the length of the Guemes Channel is an exciting project.  To be able to enjoy the essence of the island from a quiet beautiful trail is a huge asset to those of who walk or bike.  It will be a real community source of pride.

Jan Hersey– The trail is/would be an incredible asset for our community, providing up close and personal views of our waters as well as a safe and low-carbon route between downtown and the west end … Heck, all the way to March Point!

Liz McNett Crowl–  I support the construction of a shared use trail from the west end of Anacortes to the downtown area.  The Guemes Channel Trail would provide an alternative to Oakes Avenue and 12th Street, which may mean that people who are not comfortable riding in traffic, on road, would have a fabulous option and perhaps ride and walk more as a result.

Linking with the existing Tommy Thompson Trail allows residents and visitors an active transportation option along an important corridor.  It will link where people live and work, with destination places and services.  It will meet an important need in our community and region to providing safe transportation options, and opportunities for being physically active for transportation, fitness, recreation and health.

Elizabeth Fowler– We are fortunate to live in an incredibly beautiful part of our country.  However, we don’t yet have the continuity of scenic trails to support walkers, runners, and bikers within the community, as well as tourists and visitors from outside the area.  For those of us who bike, walk, or run out and back on the Tommy Thompson Trail, this project allows us to anticipate a longer and safer route around the Anacortes community.  For our tourists and visitors, many of whom come for the recreational opportunities in the islands, we may be able to offer scenic access between the ferry terminal and the downtown area that require travel in an automobile.  This is a much-needed improvement to our community!

Dian Jahn– When I moved to Anacortes in 2004, we found a condo on Fidalgo Bay and bought one of the units because we understood that the Tommy Thompson Trail would soon replace the old rail road tracks in front of us.  This would give us access to town without having to depend on our car for every trip.  We were delighted that the TTTrail opened up by spring the following year.  Since that time we have been contant users of the trail for bicycling and walking.  The numbers of users has increased over time, and we have never experienced any negative interactions with other users of the trail and enjoy waving and talking to walkers, runners, cyclists and sometimes  pretty unusual modes of transportation.

We are sure that the extension of the TTTrail to Washington Park and WA Ferry will be an asset to the community and alternative transportation with positive results for all.

Wendy Kendrick We’re all for it!

Doug Colglazier– Wonder, exciting project!!! Tremendous enthusiasm from lots of folks! Let’s “Complete The Dream”…

Jane Billinghurst– I have walked from the ferry to downtown along the road in the dark and in the rain.  Not a pleasant experience.  I think a path will attract people downtown and provide a trail for residents to enjoy.

Bernie and Mary Selting– An absolutely essential element of continuing to make Anacortes a viable community for the future.  Bike paths are recognized as a health and safety advantage for citizens and a huge draw for tourism.

Pam Allen– Great community project connecting the west end of the island to the east with a quality waterfront trail along the Guemes Channel.  A beautiful asset everyone can use.  Give your support!

Ed Gregg– What a fabulous concept.  Please, by all means, make it a reality as soon as possible!

Linda Talman– This is an incredible trail.  Perfect for families.  Perfect for anyone who wants to fully enjoy our water setting.  Keep your carbon footprint local and walk/hike locally.

Jeannette Papadakis,  Anacortes School Board- Let’s get this done.  So many would be able to benefit from this jewel in our community!

Bonnie Bowers, City of Anacortes– I am writing to support the construction of a pedestrian/bicycle trail from the west end of Anacortes to the downtown area. The volume of cars on Oakes Ave. and 12th St. makes it an unpleasant and sometimes an unsafe roadway for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

Diverting the pedestrian/bicycle traffic to the trail will assist citizens and visitors in safely traveling within our city as well as provide a more enjoyable experience.

The planned link with the existing Tommy Thompson Trail will allow cyclists to travel much of the City without navigating through vehicle traffic. In addition it creates a link for bicycle tourist traffic to enjoy the downtown corridor, and scenic Guemes Channel, while enroute to the Washington State Ferry.

Meg Sweeney– As an avid bicyclist who now has young children beginning to cycle, I have discovered that it is challenging to find enough safe, relatively flat terrain for my family to ride. The completion of the Guemes Channel Trail would open up many more opportunities for us to bicycle in Anacortes and offer many more destinations we could safely reach including beaches, city parks and the ferry. We are looking forward to the Guemes Channel Trail’s completion.

Constance & Mark Wray– My husband and I came here 25 years ago with 3 small boys; we were looking for a healthy environment to raise our family. During this time we have watched our community grow and change; but always at its collective heart the priority has been for people friendly spaces. Places to say hello to friends and to greet new friends. Places for solitude and contemplation as well as spaces for the athletic. Places for families, and for those who walk a little slower. Our family supports this singular opportunity to complete The Guemes Channel Trail. We look forward to our slow walks, walks with our dogs. Riding our bikes and greeting our neighbors. These open spaces enhance the soul and livability of our daily lives, and remind us, that we truly live in a spectacular part of the world.Kristen
